Melkorka Katrin

Melkorka Katrín (b.1995, Reykjavík), also known by the artist name Korkimon, is an Icelandic multidisciplinary visual artist currently based in New York City. Melkorka holds a BA in Fine Arts and Gender Studies from Sarah Lawrence College, and studied at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. She is currently earning an MFA in Fine Arts at The School of Visual Arts. Korkimon considers parallel play and carcasses of intimacy through monstrous portrayals of the body and stitching something back together that was never whole to begin with, suggesting an attempt at connection.

They explore a variety of mediums, including drawing, sewing, collage, and photography. Korkimon actively participates in solo and group exhibitions both in Iceland and abroad. Her works have been showcased in spaces such as Gallery Port, Ásmundarsalur, and 1300° Gallery in Reykjavík, The Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas, O’Flaherty’s and 99¢ Plus Gallery in New York
